We all remember that huge sci-fi hit that focused on fighting between huge alien monsters and extremely big robots operated by two people at the same time. Well, that movie is definitely getting a sequel, and even though this was whispered for a long time, it is now clear that Pacific Rim 2 is going to happen.
Well, seeing how this movie is about huge aliens and robots fighting, it is clear that not all characters from the first part are going to appear in the second one, due to the fact that some of the didn’t make it. However, director Guillermo del Toro mentioned that a lot of familiar faces are going to appear in Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, which is the official name of the sequel.
During his questioning about The Strain, a TV series made by Del Toro, this director answered a couple of questions about this movie too. There, he mentioned that believes that almost all of the people who survived the first part are going to make a comeback in a sequel.
However, the bad part about this sequel if the fact that it probably won’t hit the theaters before 2017, which is pretty far, but the good part is the fact that the beloved main characters will make a comeback. That means that we will once again see Becket, played by Charlie Hunnam, and Mako, played by Rinko Kikuchi. They will once again pilot the enormous robots called Jaegers, who are being used to fight the Kaiju, vicious alien monsters that wish to ruin our planet.
This statement by Del Toro also probably means that once again, we will see Dr. Geiszler, played by Charlie Day, and Gottlies, played by Burn Gorman. The fans were also hoping that Ron Perlman would also make a comeback as Hannibal Chau, a sleazy merchant that trades everything Kaiju-related. If you watched the scene that appears post-credits, you could have seen that he is in fact not dead, and is very much alive and more vivid than ever. The one thing most fans will not like is the fact that there will be no Idris Elba, since his character died a heroic death. However, you never know nowadays, he may come back some way – after all, it’s Hollywood.
Another thing that shows us that this film is a go is the fact that most of the crew from Pacific Rim are still in great relations with the director, and some of them are even currently working with him, like Hunnam and Gorman, that both appear in Del Toro’s Crimson Peak. Another strong statement that shows us that this movie is a go is a statement by Del Toro, who said that the sequel would focus more on Geiszler and Gottlieb, while Charlie Hunnam would also get his share of the action in the flick.
So, all we can do is wait and hope that the movie would be successful as the first one, and that it would feature more huge robots and alien monsters. Because that’s what it’s all about, right?
